Ph.D. Students

Ahmad Shakil

I joined the research group as a Ph.D student in 2017. I did my BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). My research interests include nanotribology, thin film mechanics, head-disk interfaces and electronic packaging. I am currently working on nanotribological behavior of head-disk interfaces at elevated temperatures.

Kian Bashandeh

I am a Ph.D. student of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. I joined Dr. Polycarpou’s group in January 2018. I received my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Isfahan in September 2016. My prior research was micro-mechanics study of behavior of polymer concrete under compressive loading. Currently I am working on 3-body abrasive wear behavior of ATSP coating submerged in water containing abrasive silica sands for the application of tilting-pad thrust bearings.

Ayesha Asif

I joined Professor Polycarpou’s research group in Spring 2019 as a PhD student. I earned my bachelor’s in mechanical engineering in 2018 from Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. I have had the opportunity to pursue a variety of projects. Currently, I am involved in research regarding the effects of water-based lubricants on friction and wear reduction in Ferrous materials. These are environmentally friendly additives for application in the oil and gas industry. My research interests also include nano-indentation behavior of polymeric coatings and the effect of substrate.
